Gareth Lauchlan – PDINZ
Gareth is the co-owner of Formworks, having moved from a senior designer role to co-owner in 2011. Gareth has over 20 years of professional design experience.
In 2001 he joined the Formworks design team and has since worked on a variety of products including automotive, aeronautical, packaging, consumer, conceptual, and industrial projects.
Gareth is passionate about the projects that he works on, and the way with which design can improve upon not only the style and functionality of a product but also the way with which they can evoke both emotive and physical reactions from users.
In recent years Gareth has been involved with the judging of the Best Awards, James Dyson Awards and an active member of DINZ. Gareth is a professional member of the Designers Institute of New Zealand (PDINZ).
Outside of the office, you will generally find Gareth at any one of the numerous BMX tracks around NZ as he competes in the National Series with his kids, or volunteering at the local Waitakere BMX track.

Jamie Booth – PDINZ
Jamie is the co-owner of Formworks, having moved from a senior designer role to co-owner in 2011. Jamie has over 20 years of professional experience.
Jamie graduated with an honours degree in Industrial Design from Massey University Wellington School of Design in 2000.
His professional career began during his final year of university, having been approached by Tait Radio Communication to work on a customer-focused research project. After graduating, Jamie became Tait’s in-house industrial designer responsible for designing their mobile, portable and base station product ranges.
Jamie joined the Formworks design team in 2004, working his way to a senior designer position before becoming co-owner. The portfolio of products Jamie has designed is extensive; airline seating, passenger bagdrop units, motor-homes, consumer electronics, food packaging, medical, industrial, point of sale products and more. Jamie’s experience places him not only at the front end of projects but throughout the scoping, research, concepting, testing, development and delivery of each project he works on.
Jamie is a professional member of the Designers Institute of New Zealand (PDINZ). When not at work Jamie is chipping away renovating his house, spending time with his family and more recently getting back into portrait painting.

In 2014 Alex joined the team at Formworks Design, she has worked with clients across a breadth of industries including Airline kiosks, consumer products, packaging, furniture, and graphic design. Alex is passionate about how design has a role in the physical world. She enjoys the porous nature of the Formworks Design environment and finds that her work projects suit her technical skills, innovation, and design style.
Before joining Formworks Design, Alex profession career started with Fisher and Paykel Healthcare where she worked on designing and styling a product within the respiratory acute range. Alex was also a designer with 3i Innovation and St Michel.
Alex holds an Honours degree in Industrial design from the Massey University, Auckland.
On weekends you will find Alex cycling, running and kayaking all over New Zealand.
Jon joined us in 2018, having emigrated from the UK. As Senior Designer, he oversees large projects along with new client introductions and project scoping.
Jon comes from a diverse design background having worked on innovative watersports equipment and household appliances through to the newly revealed Dyson Electric Car. His most notable projects have been a series of GPS Tracking Batons designed for non-stop running relays across America.
He gravitates towards front end conceptual design and prototyping. Jon utilises his experience in Design Thinking with new clients helping them to fall in love with the problem rather than the solution.
Outside of work you’ll find Jon in his workshop making furniture or surfing out on the west coast.
Max joined Formworks in 2019 coming from a medical device engineering background at Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, designing masks for sleep apnoea therapy. Having completed a Product Development Engineering degree at Massey University in Palmerston North, he has a technical background but also has a passion for design and finds a good balance in his role at Formworks.
His varied work history has included computer coding for agricultural simulations, cryogenic testing of superconductors, process improvements for reaction injection and rotational moulding, and wristwatch and motorcycle design. Through these experiences, he has picked up skills in complex surface modelling, CNC machining, prototype tool making, and injection moulding.
After-hours you will find Max in his garage, designing and modifying motorcycles or tending to his 1936 Austin Seven.
Hailing from Bedfordshire in the UK, Will moved to New Zealand in 2013 and one year later enrolled in a Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Industrial Design at Massey University in Wellington. There, his passion for design grew. Now, recently graduated with First Class Honours, Will brings fresh ideas and perspectives to the Formworks team.
On the weekends you might find Will working on personal design projects or playing a round of golf. Being English – Will is a big football fan and has been known to get up in the early hours of the morning to watch a game.
Will has a huge passion for taking care of a design’s aesthetics and form language to increase it’s desirability and function. However, he is not afraid to get stuck into physical prototyping and is a skilled model-maker. He also takes a keen interest in Design Thinking strategies and Human Centred Design methodologies.
His Honours project from Massey University won the Core77 Design Award 2019 for the Furniture and Lighting Student category. He designed a portable furniture system with click together joinery.
