The idea was to gain a competitive edge in the market by solving many of the existing problems with collapsible crates. Problems such as reducing the number of components, simplifying the complexity of latching, assembly and collapsing of the crate.

The objective was to design a simple robust crate, which can be collapsed in order to reduce back freighting costs and increase warehouse and truck utilisation. The crate had to be easy to use, easy to clean and rigid enough to compete with non-collapsible crates. The design had to project an image of durability, reliability, and strength.
